In 1964 there was a Girl Guides section in Lepton which met at the Methodist Church on Wakefield Road but no Scouts. A member of the congregation and previous Boys Brigade and Scout member, Darrell Nash, was asked by the minister at the time if he would start Scouts and on Wednesday 15th April of that year, the first Scout Troop in Lepton was formed.
This proved to be a great success, with the boys taking part in various activities including camping, knots, cooking outdoors and lots of games. After a few years a plot of land in the middle of Lepton was leased to the Group by the Council, a new headquarters was built by volunteers and the Scouts found themselves with a purpose-built hall to meet in. Over the years the Group has met with various fortunes but has soldiered on.
We currently have 2 Beaver Colonies (6 to 8 years), 2 Cub Packs (8 to 10.5 years) and 1 Scout Troop (10.5 to 14 years). As Scouting is fully inclusive and open to both sexes we have boys and girls in all of the three sections. We welcome all young people, and are able to accommodate those with various disabilities.
